January 24 - The Powers that Be

Mark 15. The highest Jewish court condemns Jesus. The Roman power Pilate, commands centurions who order soldiers to execute his orders to crucify Jesus, then command a stone to be put at the tomb's entrance, and have it heavily guarded. The little guy just looks on powerlessly. Verse 47 – “Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses were looking on to see where he was laid.” They are “helpless vulnerable observers” of these powers that be. Oh really? World leaders ought to feel “used.” They are. God needs a setting to work out his purposes. These monarchs are impotent pawns “used” to create his chosen backdrop for His awesome power and purpose to manifest themselves.
